Taking the soft pedal off the right hemisphere

Posted: 27th April 2017 Taking the soft pedal off the right hemisphere

In the last blog I drew attention to the need for right hemisphere thinking in education if so-called ‘educational underachievement’ is ever to be successfully addressed. This is but one example of a much bigger problem articulated brilliantly by Dr Iain McGilchrist.

Dr McGilchrist's brilliant and ground-breaking book on the brain hemispheres, ‘The Master and his Emissary’, is a comprehensive challenge to the direction our society has been heading for centuries under the dominance of the left hemisphere.

The detailed neuroscience in his book and his historical and social survey is probably beyond the reach of most people. It revolutionised my own thinking when it was first written and you can find a fascinating and accessible summary on RSA Animate at
