Reducing your risk of Alzheimer's

Posted: 6th June 2017 Entrepreneurship Ecosystems

There could be no more important personal issue for your long term plans for your life!

The statistics for the possibility of developing Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia is no less alarming than it was 5 years ago.

At that time there was optimism that drugs being tested would by this time have been able to cure or at least prevent the relentless increase in this disease that destroys the capacity of the brain with age.

Although the newspapers are quick to make a headline out of any potential chemical therapeutic discovery, there is still no prospect to give solid hope of avoiding this plague.

Recently there has been more publicity about early detection and the potential of trialling drugs at an early stage. Since Alzheimer's changes in the brain begin around 20 years before the symptoms one wonders how many people will want to know in advance the likelihood of developing the disease if the drug therapy is only experimental. Most people would probably prefer not to know.

However, over the last 5 years Fingerprint Learning has been advocating the role of lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's. These include, diet, exercise, social and cognitive stimulation. A BrainFit Consultation lasts about 90 minutes and costs about the same as a new tyre! But it can help any individual plan and implement the lifestyle changes that can delay or prevent Alzheimer's and offer a much brighter prospect for the future.

When is it best to make these changes? As soon as possible... and certainly in your 40's and 50's! But they will bring benefits at any point after retirement.
